Interesting facts about TeeGschwendner

If TeeGschwendner didn't have so much to do with tea, it would have to be called "Neuland" (new land). "Make and drink tea, on to new shores" - this motto is reflected in the entire history of the company, which has been going on since 1978. Whether Albert and his wife Gwendalina Gschwendner implemented the then crazy idea of a tea shop and received all kinds of ridicule for it, whether the brothers Karl and Albert Gschwendner joined forces to enter the franchising business, which was still quite unknown back then, and thus built up an independent community of closely connected tea friends and traders, whether the Internet was conquered with an online tea shop at a time when only a few private households had 2/86 computers, or whether tea knowledge was bundled for an IHK-certified training course to become a tea sommelier - the pioneering spirit was at its core at all times.

Quality in every respect

TeeGschwendner stands for the highest product quality and excellent product safety. Even the purchase of our teas is carried out according to defined quality criteria. Organically grown tea is preferred, while conventionally grown tea is purchased exclusively from tea gardens that know and take seriously the high quality standards of "TeeGschwendner".

Employees of "TeeGschwendner" regularly visit the tea gardens on site to discuss quality-related criteria with the producers. All tea samples are examined for traditional quality criteria as well as for undesirable residues and contaminants. Traditional quality assessments (observation of the processed leaf, smell of the dry tea, taste of the brewed tea, testing of the infusion, ie the brewed tea leaves) are carried out by our tea tasters.

Quality assurance

We accompany the journey of the tea from the country of origin to your cup through a seamless chain of complex quality assurance measures.

Sustainability at TeeGschwendner

Since the company was founded, responsible action in the interests of people and nature has been an essential part of the company culture. This action has become a fundamental attitude for us in order to harmonize moral values with entrepreneurial action.

Our company history shows the development from the traditional "tea trade" into a time with increasingly complex business ideas, fields and a variety of business partners, in which we were able to manifest our value-oriented actions through continuous development processes.

The interactive exchange between the people in the countries of origin who produce our tea, the people who buy the tea and those who enthusiastically sell it in their shops here is unique. Through countless trips to tea gardens all over the world, the understanding of the challenges at the source grows and, conversely, the difficult-to-understand requirements of the Western world regarding work or food safety can be explained to the people in the countries of origin.

A fundamental building block on the path to sustainability is the further development of our product range to include more organically grown products and our own projects in the producing countries, through which we can provide direct, concrete development aid in the best sense of the word.

Organic tea as a sustainability factor

Tea – whether organically or conventionally grown – is one of the purest foods on earth. The fact that over 40% of the teas in our range are organically grown is a result of our "YES" to changing production methods for the benefit of the environment, people and nature.

The advantage of organic tea lies primarily in the particularly gentle cultivation methods that focus on the well-being of the environment, people and nature. Conventional teas, on the other hand, are often superior to organically grown teas in terms of quality, taste and purity. In our tea range, we therefore focus on both conventional and organic teas, with one premise always being the top priority: the tea must be fair, healthy and delicious!

More and more people are choosing organic tea because they buy their tea not only for the enjoyment factor but also for consumer responsibility. Organic doesn't just mean that the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or genetic engineering is prohibited and quality is prioritized over quantity. Organic means above all that the natural cycle of life and intact relationships between humans, the environment and animals are preserved. Through this conscious and responsible use of resources, organic farming also aims to preserve our environment for future generations.

Sustainable packaging

When it comes to packaging, product protection is TeeGschwendner's top priority. Our goal is to ensure the highest product safety and the best taste, using the most environmentally friendly packaging materials possible. Reconciling these two approaches is a major challenge. In order to find suitable packaging solutions in a dynamic market with constantly new possibilities and developments, we work with renowned partners from the packaging industry when developing packaging. For products where product protection requirements allow it, we consciously use the scope for using recycled and recyclable materials. For responsible tea enjoyment with every cup!

Herbal tea packaging made of grass paper

In addition to a uniform design with greater recognition value and even better product and transport protection, the topic of sustainability was also clearly the focus of the redesign of our herbal tea packaging. Especially because our wonderfully natural herbal tea selection has come almost exclusively from organic cultivation for many years!
