Oolong tea - also known as Wulong tea, Olong or Ulong tea - is characterized by its unique taste, which is somewhere between black and green tea. This is because the tea leaves in Oolong tea are only partially oxidized. The taste depends on the degree of oxidation and tends to be more like black tea or green tea. Traditionally, the tea leaves were twisted so that they looked like small black dragons. This is how the tea got its name: "Wu Long" - black dragon. Formosa, or Taiwan, is considered the country of origin of Oolong tea and still offers top quality teas today. But China, Nepal and Indonesia also produce excellent Oolong teas.
